I’m a Senior Photographer based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. I was an actor and theatre major in college, so much of my style is drawn from telling stories and theatricality. My business is based around high school seniors who want a session that is custom designed around their loves, talents and aesthetic! No one session is alike! Professional hair and makeup top off their experience with amazing looks for their creative images.

|Where do you draw inspiration from?
Many times I use the clients personalities and look to define what their sessions will look like. I tend to stay away from other senior photographers for inspiration but keep an eye on other arts like painting, film, theatre and fashion magazines to pull new ideas/looks and wardrobe. I like to know what is trending to keep that in mind for my seniors! (They are usually so up on that anyway – I have to stay a step ahead!!)
|What is one obstacle you had when you first started your business? What did you do to overcome it?
When I first started photography, I tried to do it all. In Minnesota our senior season is VERY short (5 months) and everyone always told me there is NO WAY to just photograph seniors because you couldn’t make a living. I decided that I hated photographing anything else so I just took the plunge and ONLY marketed seniors. And it worked with stunning success!
|Please share one tip that you found to be successful to share with other photographers.
Sometimes you just need to trust your gut and take a leap. The better you know what YOU want and who YOU are the more your clients will trust you with their sessions/moments and memories. Find your passion and show them why you do what you do…and they will follow you on the journey. 🙂
