|Tell us about yourself and your business.
I am a full time stay-at-home mom of two (almost 3) who started my business almost a year ago as a way to have a purpose outside the home. I tried out a few different types of sessions at first, but was instantly drawn to seniors. There are so much variety that seniors allow – from bold style choices to more dramatic poses. It allows for an endless range of possibilities and their enthusiasm makes it all the more fun. While I live near gorgeous beaches, I tend to do most of my shoots in other unique and fun locations away from the emerald waters.
|What is in your gear bag?
Nikon D610 with a 50mm lens plus a step stool is typically all I need.
|Where do you draw inspiration from?
Mostly, colors and emotions are the driving force when I’m creating an image or session feel. I love looking at other senior photographers work. They give me goals and help drive me to up my skill level. I also love using my clients as inspiration. Often, I find their personalities really vibe with certain poses and settings.
|What is one obstacle you had when you first started your business? What did you do to overcome it?
Getting my name out there has been difficult. I did do the twelfth year free online course that really helped me dominate Instagram. I’m still struggling to really up my number of inquiries, but I am also expecting my third child this fall so hoping next year will be the year I really ramp up.
|Please share one tip that you found to be successful to share with other photographers.
Just ignore the self doubt and have a fake it until you make it attitude. If I had let my self doubt defeat me I would have never had created some of my favorite images.
