Tell us about yourself and your business.
My name is Cassie Clarkson, and I have been a professional photographer for five years. My work has been published in multiple magazines and blogs. I offer both in-studio portraits and on-location sessions, specializing in senior portraits and families.
What is in your gear bag?
Nikon D600 is the main camera body I use. The most common lens I use for my seniors is my Nikkor 85mm but I occasionally use my Nikkor 50mm and my Nikkor 70-300mm as well depending on the situation. When I am shooting on location I also use a flashpoint streaklight off camera flash with a beauty dish light modifier.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
All of my sessions are preplanned to a certain extent (such as starting location), however I really like to be spontaneous and impulsive once we are actually there. I like to feed off my clients’ energy and find my inspiration as we go. It makes for a more genuine experience. There is a lot of laughter during my portrait sessions, I want my clients to have fun! I want authentic smiles and relaxed body language. I want to capture the real you! What inspires me the most is this amazing time in a young persons life where the possibilities are quite literally endless and what an absolute honor it is to be entrusted with the memories of this precious time.
What is one obstacle you had when you first started your business? What did you do to overcome it?
My biggest obstacle from the beginning is still my biggest obstacle today… and that is balancing work and home life. I am a mother of four and my family relies on me as their primary caretaker and financial provider. I balance this by putting my family first as much as possible if I am not working. I do not watch television or get on social media very often unless it is for work.
