|Tell us about yourself and your business.
I’m a born and raised Florida girl. I have two of the most beautiful boys on the planet and I’m super lucky to have married the funniest man I know! I started Jessica Liane Photography in the Summer of 2010 and I specialize in High School Seniors, Children, and Family portraits. I gravitate towards lifestyle photography with a hint of traditional portraiture. I love getting to know my clients so I can capture the real them. I’m so passionate about what I do. It’s a part of me. I believe everyone should have their stories told, and I’m so blessed to be able to give the gift of memories to my clients.

|Where do you draw inspiration from?
My children, music, magazines, Pinterest, my peer groups, driving in my car. Inspiration is all around us!
|What is one obstacle you had when you first started your business? What did you do to overcome it?
Getting my name out there and standing out. I just kept shooting. My friends, family, work peers. I wanted to build my portfolio and get my name in front of as many people as I could. The fall holiday minis my first year was a huge success and did wonders for my business and getting my name out there as well.
|Please share one tip that you found to be successful to share with other photographers.
Build a strong portfolio that represents your brand. Figure out your style and build on that, along with a technically sound portfolio (exposure, clarity, white balance, etc.) Those things must be mastered in your portfolio, then start charging what you’re worth. Don’t worry about what your neighbor, or your cousin’s best friend, or your mom friend is charging. Figure out your CODB (cost of doing business) and charge what you’re worth. Value you!
Also, try all areas of photography to see what your passionate about, but in the end focus on one or two genres. Don’t try to do it all. How does that saying go, “Jack of all trades, master of none.” Know what you’re strengths and passions are, and focus on that to build your business and brand around. Once I figured that out, my business changed drastically!
Sorry that was two tips, ha!
