Hey guys, well I’m Amanda and I hit 30 this year and thats been a whirlwind haha, luckily no grays yet haha!
I started shooting around 18 years old while I was at my first job, a Scrapbook Store…yea I was being paid with paper alright lol! Anyway, from there is pretty much when I started to find my passion, photography. Me in a nutshell would be, fun, loud, round haha and a good pair of heels. lol (doesn’t it kind of stink we can’t really wear them on shoots….cant a girl look fashionable while spending hours on her feet?! ) lol I know you all feel me on that haha.
I married my best friend, when I was 24 and we just celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary this past Sept. Im truly truly a blessed woman, not only is he crazy hot but he loves me more then I could have ever imagined a man loving a woman and his passion for our Lord is just so inspiring and how he leads our home and our family, Im totally a lucky/blessed gal. Love you Vic!…We have a 3 year old little boy, who just happens to be the cutest kid IN HISTORY…not joking lol…He has super amazing taste in music lol, a few months ago it was some classic Michael Jackson and now its Queen lol with a little bit of Led Zipplin…HE’S 3! Kids got some musical talent, not ganna lie lol. Of corse when my clients come to my house, he flirts with them and says “Oh princess…ELSA!” lol. Thats my kid, the totally smoozer haha.
Right now its just me and my boys; loving and serving and just excited for what our Lord has next for us.

Apart from constantly looking for new locations….Have you guys ever gotten sick in the car????? haha when Im not driving, I find myself and my eyes moving around from streets to streets looking at light and trying to find something….hence, Amanda if you can’t read in the car, its probably best to not make yourself DIZZY! lol
OK back to the question….I think I just try to keep that creative window open. Whether Im watching a movie (which has been huge inspiration lately) or Pinterest (Shout out to my Pin Sisters!! **Fist Pump**). It could really be anything, an add in a magazine, a clothing item, a song! Thats kind of next on my list of things to shoot, an actual session inspired by a song! I sing and play piano too so that would be totally awesome to incorporate that some how! OMG good ideas! Should I be writing these down too?!
Well, Im a night owl, so I usually stay up forever, like as Im going through these questions its 2:00am lol. But my day usually starts by waking up loll, depending upon the situation my son will be picked up by Nana to watch him or I may have to take him to day care…Usually in the summer time I have a few sitters that are amazing and sweet young ladies that help me out; but during school season, thats a different story.
Thats usually the start of my day. I guess it would depend upon what kind of day. For regular non-shoot days, I go in my office, check emails/voicemails, and start my editing process. I typically like to edit and do my office work in the beginning of the week because come the end of the weeks and saturdays Im shooting like crazy.
Shoot days are definitely different and tend to be kind of crazy mornings lol. First find that Red Bull…am I right ladies??!! My office/show room is currently located in my house, so I have to make sure that its clean but my house is clean too and we all know that it can be crazy and insane to keep a clean house with a 3 year old. Ive got one kid, I could only imagine with multiple little humans running around, so my hats off to you ladies!! My assistant will arrive about 15 min prior, she gets the hair stuff ready and at that time I crank on the music wait for the clients to arrive.
When they arrive, we help them with their clothes and just cater to them while the prep process begins. We chat about everything, using our phones by snapping a few BTS images for social media and tagging them. Giggling laughing and having a good time.
I feel its totally an important part to start laying the ground work during this time of them peeping; because not only are they getting ready but you are emotionally starting to get them ready for the shoot. I try to start getting through to them just incase because some will have walls up and thats ok, but I, as their photographer, want to make sure I capture the best moment of themselves, who they are and of corse looking pretty cute too lol.
OK I think the main thing was what all of our favorite, Sue Bryce had said. She mentioned something to the effect of “No one is going to care about your business the way you do.” For some reason it was like a light turned on in my head and made all the sense.
Yes, yes…I secretly wanted a money bag millionaire investor to come along, see me and say “hey, heres $100,000….go make a business! I believe in you!” lol. Don’t hate, you know you thought of stuff like that too lol!!! 😉 no but in all reality I really was thinking that someone else could help me and do it…but when Sue had said that it was like revealed to me that I had to get down and dirty, roll my sleeves up and just jump in.
And thats what I’ve been doing ever since. Thats the one thing that really helped me understand that if I wanted this to work and I wanted it bad enough then I had to shut up and get it done.
Has it been perfect? Heck no! lol Have I been perfect? Absolutely…..NOT! haha. But with His favor and in His timing things just happened and while we work hard it starts to slowly unravel, which is a totally freakin’ awesome ride!!! lol
I just want to take this moment to encourage you! YOU CAN DO IT!!! If you’ve got the talent and the ability with the handwork, you can totally achieve what you set out to. It may not happen in the time we want or expect, but keep rolling those sleeves up..plants don’t grow over night…they grow in time and in certain seasons…maybe this is planting season for you, and the harvest is coming. I don’t know why Im referencing gardening because I kill fake plants lol; but I just want you to be encouraged; believe in yourself, and get out there and make some pretty rad pictures for our pretty awesome clients!!!
